About
Delph Brass Band
A Brief History
Delph Band is one of
Saddleworth's oldest bands, formed in 1850. It has been an ever present part
of the community throughout its history. Whilst retaining its ethos as a village
band, it has always tried to maintain the very high standards of performance, be
it on the concert stage or in the field of contesting. It has gained a
reputation for providing good quality programmes whilst not being afraid to
introduce its audiences to works from new composers.
There have
been many contest successes including North West Area Championships, Manchester
District Championships and Pontin’s Championships. Delph Band was the first
Saddleworth band to win the coveted title of ‘National Champions of Great
Britain’. The band have been extremely busy in recent years, with prestigious
engagements, including concerts for the Commonwealth Games, H.R.H. Prince Edward
and a private Jubilee party given by the Duke Of Westminster. Delph Band has
always tried to encourage young players and there is a thriving youth band and
training group. Hopefully these young players (like many before them who have
gone onto play with many of the country’s top bands) will secure the future of
the band for many years to come.
